Legal disclaimer.
The regulatory position of Taran Legal, in plain English and in full.
1. Status
Taran Legal is an independent commercial legal consultancy. It is operated by Dmytro Taran, a self-employed sole trader trading as Taran Legal, based in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, United Kingdom.
Taran Legal is not a firm of solicitors. It is not regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) and is not authorised by the Law Society of England and Wales. Dmytro Taran is a foreign-qualified lawyer (Master of Laws, 2006) and is currently preparing for the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE).
2. Reserved legal activities
Under section 12 of the Legal Services Act 2007, the following activities are reserved and may only be carried out by authorised persons. Taran Legal does not carry out any of them:
- The exercise of rights of audience in courts and tribunals
- The conduct of litigation
- Reserved instrument activities (registered-land conveyancing)
- Probate activities
- Notarial activities
- The administration of oaths
Where a matter requires any of these, Taran Legal will refer the client to, or co-work with, an SRA-regulated solicitor, a barrister, a licensed conveyancer, a probate practitioner, a notary public or a commissioner for oaths as appropriate.
3. UK immigration advice
Under sections 82–84 of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999, the giving of immigration advice or immigration services in the United Kingdom may only be provided by authorised persons. Taran Legal does not provide UK immigration advice or services and Dmytro Taran is not registered with the Immigration Advice Authority (IAA, formerly OISC). Immigration enquiries are referred to an IAA-regulated adviser or to an SRA-authorised immigration solicitor.
4. Scope of services
Taran Legal provides commercial legal consultancy in the following areas:
- Property and land documentation (promotion, option, collaboration agreements, JV and co-investment papers, consultant engagement and similar non-reserved work)
- Commercial contracts (drafting, review, redlining)
- Corporate and founders' agreements, governance and corporate housekeeping
- UK GDPR and data-protection advisory
- Cross-border and international commercial work, including UK market-entry support for businesses originating outside the United Kingdom and co-ordination with verified counsel in other jurisdictions where required
Engagements are governed by a written letter of engagement specifying scope, deliverables and fees.
5. No solicitor-client privilege
Because Taran Legal is not a firm of solicitors, communications between Taran Legal and a client are not protected by legal advice privilege in the strict English-law sense. Litigation privilege may apply in defined circumstances. Confidentiality is observed as a contractual matter and as a matter of professional conduct, but clients should be aware of this position before sharing material that turns on privilege.
6. Information, not advice
Any general material published on this website — including service descriptions, blog or insights posts, and FAQs — is provided for general information only. It does not constitute legal advice on any specific matter and should not be relied on as such. Advice is given only under a written engagement, against a defined set of facts and instructions.
7. Professional indemnity insurance
Taran Legal maintains [is in the process of arranging] professional indemnity insurance appropriate to the scope of its services. Details are available on request.
8. Complaints
If you are dissatisfied with any aspect of the service you have received, please email dmytro@taranlegal.co.uk with the subject line "Complaint". Complaints are acknowledged within three business days and a substantive response is given within fifteen business days. Because Taran Legal is not regulated by the SRA, the Legal Ombudsman scheme is not available, but a clearly written, time-bound complaints process is operated.
9. Governing law
These disclaimers, and any matter arising out of the use of this website, are governed by the law of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.
