Legal paperwork, without the legal bill.
Plain-English contracts, employment documents and GDPR support for small businesses across Kent. Fixed fee in writing before any work starts.
You run a small business in Kent. Something legal has come up.
You own a garage, a café, a salon, a dental practice, a plumbing firm, a small retail shop, a private dental clinic, a small consultancy. You employ five, fifteen, twenty people. You don't have an in-house lawyer and you don't want one.
Something has come up — a customer is being awkward, an employee needs a written warning, a landlord wants you to sign a new lease, a supplier has sent a long-form agreement, your accountant has flagged a GDPR audit, a new partner wants to come into the business.
You called the family solicitor in town. They quoted £1,500 for what felt like an hour of work. You searched online and saw template kits that don't quite fit. You'd just like someone to look at it, tell you what to do, and quote a sensible price. That's what this page is for.

A neighbour, not a London law firm.
Same town
Based in Tunbridge Wells. We can meet for a coffee on Pantiles if it's easier than email.
Fixed price, agreed first
No hourly billing surprises. Scope and price are agreed in writing before any drafting starts.
Plain English
We'll explain what the agreement actually says, in words you'd use yourself. Not in Latin.
Three languages
English, Ukrainian and Russian — useful if a partner, supplier or staff member is more comfortable in one of the latter two.

Free 20-minute call
Email or call. Tell us briefly what's come up. We'll say whether it fits and roughly what it would cost.

Things small-business owners ask first.
What does a typical job cost?
Most small jobs are between £200 and £900, fixed in writing before any work starts. The starter packages — GDPR baseline, UK company setup, founders' agreement — are between £900 and £1,400. Hourly rate for open-ended support is £180/hour. There is never an open meter.
I'm not in Tunbridge Wells — does that matter?
No. Most of the work is done remotely (email, WhatsApp, a Zoom call). We're happy to meet in person anywhere in West Kent or the South East if it helps.
Can you help me sack an employee?
We can help you do it lawfully — write the warning, draft the dismissal letter, prepare a settlement agreement if needed, and tell you when a step needs an employment solicitor. We do not advise on a contested unfair-dismissal tribunal case (that is a solicitor's role); we will refer you to a regulated employment solicitor if it goes there.
I had a quote from a solicitor for £1,500. Why are you cheaper?
Because Taran Legal is run lean — a foreign-qualified commercial lawyer with no firm overheads. No partner draw, no marketing department, no glossy office. We are not regulated by the SRA, which is the trade-off: we cannot do the reserved-instrument or court parts of legal work. For most small-business paperwork, that doesn't matter.
Can I just call you?
Yes. Call +44 7393 835 067 during UK office hours. If we don't pick up, we'll call back the same business day.
Do you do leases, conveyancing and probate?
No. Leases of registered land, conveyancing and probate are reserved legal activities — they need an SRA-regulated solicitor or licensed conveyancer. We'll introduce you to a regulated firm we trust and, where it helps, stay involved as your point of contact.
Do you work with non-English-speaking clients?
Yes. Our working languages are English, Ukrainian and Russian, all to professional standard. Documents are produced in English by default; happy to talk through them in any of the three.
